Puzzle #1232 · Updated Sunday, October 25, 2026

Stuck on today's Connections? Start with the nudges below and only open the next hint if you need it. The full solution stays hidden until the last hint. The FAQ at the very bottom spells out everything, so stop before it if you want to keep playing.

Hint 1: Nudges (no spoilers)

  • Yellow: What a light-fingered person does when nobody is looking.
  • Green: Look in the dry goods aisle of an Italian kitchen. One of them belongs on a cart, another on a beach.
  • Blue: Four characters from books and fairy tales who share the same three-letter first name.
  • Purple: Each one goes with the same quick action, and most of them make a sharp sound when you do it.
Hint 2: Show the category names
  • Yellow: Steal
  • Green: Pasta shapes

FINGERSFOOTBALLGLOW STICKRUBBER BAND

All four can be snapped: you snap your FINGERS, the center snaps the FOOTBALL to start a play, you snap a GLOW STICK to make it light up, and you snap a RUBBER BAND.

Hint 4: Traps to avoid and a solving order (contains spoilers)

THUMB, PALM, FINGERS and ELBOW look like an obvious body parts group, but they split across four different groups. SWIFT may make you think of Taylor Swift, yet here it is Tom Swift, the boy inventor from old adventure novels. POCKET and FOOTBALL both have American football meanings, which can pull you toward a sports group that does not exist. SWIPE sounds like a quick hand movement, close to snapping, but it belongs with stealing.

One way to play it: start with the pasta shapes, because WAGON WHEEL and BOW TIE are hard to place anywhere else. Then find the Toms: SAWYER and RIPLEY point there quickly. That leaves the stealing words and the snapping group, and once ELBOW and THUMB are gone the body parts decoy falls apart.
